On the fine windy afternoon, the Witham 4s face Witham 5s - hoping to gain a win.
From the moment the whistle went, the 4s were on the front foot - putting plenty of attacking pressure with attacks down both flanks being constantly thwarted by the experienced 5s (and a lack of conviction and direction with some passes).
A spell of over committing to the attack at the end of the 1st half, trying to break the stalemate, did exactly that but in the wrong goal.
A fantastic bit of play from the 5s led to an underwhelming but decisive goal by Sam M for the 5s, whilst Jon was not set and ready for it - the ball absolutely did NOT go through his legs.
An impassioned half time speech and discussion at half time, with the youngsters chiming up and showing their passion and maturity coming though drove the team throughout the 2nd half, but alas - no equalizer, nor a winning goal materialized for the 4s.
Heads held high, with some squashed goolies, a thrown stick and a bottle of strawberry vodka consumed, the 4s proudly paid their fines, voted Josh for player of the match, Jon with the standard DotD - until Geof decided to own up to voting for himself (a mistake he will not lightly make again).
The rest of the afternoon, evening, and early hours of Sunday were spent with the inter-mingling of both the 4s and 5s - leaving the rivalry on the pitch, and the love of the club shining through (mostly reflecting from Will Saunders player of the match badge, displayed proudly upon his chest).
Onwards and upwards to next weekends game at Brentwood - where a repeat of last years incident will absolutely not be happening (Sarah O'shea - please stay away!)
