Witham Ladies 1st XI produced a blistering performance at home, storming to a 10–2 win over Romford 1s in a game defined by slick attacking play, intelligent defending, and tireless effort across the pitch. The goals began flowing early, with the opening strike arriving in the 7th minute when Amy calmly converted after being perfectly set up by Hannah, whose work rate and unselfish movement created the opportunity.
Witham doubled their advantage in the 14th minute as Adriana, finding space effortlessly as always, slotted home from a precise Sarah O’Shea assist. Romford briefly disrupted the rhythm with an 18th‑minute goal, but Witham’s response was immediate and decisive. Luce, who despite later winning Muppet of the Match, read the game wonderfully and slipped another brilliant ball into Amy, who finished clinically to make it 3–1 in the 25th minute.
Witham continued to dominate, and in the 39th minute Adriana added her second after a crisp pass from Amy. Romford pulled another back a minute later, but Witham were relentless. In the 44th minute Amy completed her hat‑trick following a clever through‑ball from Luce, before Jess, whose J‑runs caused constant disruption, assisted Adriana for her third just a minute later.
The midfield continued dictating play, and in the 54th minute Sarah O’Shea, who was outstanding all match, delivered another inch‑perfect assist for Adriana to convert. Witham struck again in the 55th minute with Jess assisting Adriana once more as the floodgates opened. In the 60th minute, Sarah Van Stolk, stepping up confidently from the second team, provided a smart pass for Adriana to add yet another. The final goal of the match came in the 63rd minute when Hannah, who had worked selflessly all afternoon, was rewarded with a composed finish to make it an emphatic 10–2.
Defensively, Witham were equally impressive. Moose made a series of brilliant saves, commanding her D with loud, clear communication and reacting instinctively to shut down loose players. Leanne produced several heroic last‑ditch tackles, winning every battle she committed to. Chloe PJ read the game superbly, stepping in repeatedly to intercept Romford’s passes and halt their attacks. Anna delivered strong flat‑stick tackles that pushed the ball forward again and again, maintaining Witham’s momentum. Amelia added composure with neat reverse‑stick picks and clean challenges.
The midfield unit was vital, reading the game brilliantly and turning interceptions into immediate counterattacks. Eve patrolled the centre well — even if she did once run the wrong way for a decision — and continually broke up Romford’s play. Luce, despite her Muppet of the Match moment, disrupted Romford constantly with clever anticipation. Sarah O’Shea controlled the centre superbly, causing problems for Romford throughout and distributing with intelligence and composure.
Up front, the forward line was ruthless. Amy drove at defenders fearlessly, held up the ball expertly, and caused havoc with her movement. Adriana was instinctive and lethal inside the D. Hannah’s selfless running and ability to stretch the Romford defence created countless openings. Sarah Van Stolk slotted seamlessly into the forward line, offering energy, pace, and creativity.
Post-match, Player of the Match was awarded to Sarah O’Shea for her incredible midfield control, tireless work rate, and multiple high-quality assists. Muppet of the Match went to Luce, whose excellent performance was slightly overshadowed by a memorable moment of chaos — entirely fitting with team tradition.
Witham walked away with a statement win, scoring ten goals through teamwork, pressing, composure and relentlessness. It was the kind of performance that shows just how dangerous this side can be when every unit is firing.
